TheoBroma @ Cyber City, Gurgaon

Theobroma!! As name suggest, “food of the gods”!! Mumbai’s rock star landed in Gurgaon @ Cyber city recently. They are famous for  yummy brownies. I was very excited to visit it on sunday evening for lip smacking brownies, but my excitement faded away in first bite itself.

Ambience (4/5) :Like many other restaurants in Cyber Hub, this place has an outdoor seating with beautiful pastel pink and green interiors and exteriors. This place is surely add-on to the whole Cyber Hub delight.

Menu (4/5): you have variety of cakes/pastries/pie available here with modern twist.

We ordered
# Oreo brownie  : It was awesome , but could have been better if served hot. It was dry and hard.
# millionaire brownie: Was served dry & hard. Didn’t taste well.

# Rainbow cake pastry: Best ever tasted. Colorful &perfectly baked.

# Banofee pie : Awesome flavor of Banana & choclate

# Red velvet brownie: It had a smell of Christian Dior old perfume called poison.

# macaroons : They were Okayish. Could have been better.

Service: The servers were not able to manage the crowd and were serving cold hard brownies. They even charged us for Packing bags, even after informing that we will sit here & eat. They were rude and were not at all helpful.

Recommendation:  Variety & Quality is good, but didn’t had a good experience !!

Delhicacy

Delhicacy as the name suggests, the theme of this restaurant is Purani Dilli’s Food. It located @ first floor of Galleria Market in DLF Phase 4, Gurgaon. It’s a hidden gem of Gurgaon, which saves us the time to travel to old Delhi for finger licking great food.

The restaurant is run by a young couple (Prabbal & his wife) since Jan 2015, and recently 2 weeks back they renovated it to increase the dining space. They ensure to be available at the restaurant (either of them) to manage the show– from taking the order to serving at times & also in clearing the plates at times. While a small chat with them, they told us that they themselves visit & buy the spices from diff places. They then try a hand with them and add it to existing dish to enhance its flavor. Even the bread’s (Kulche, pao) used here cannot be find in any market shops. I think it’s there secret what makes them so unique and authentic.

They offer lip smacking & mouth-watering dishes by maintaining the traditional & old Delhi authenticity of chaat’s and other variety. They Along with Dine in, they have food delivery facility too with a tie up with Swiggy & Foodpanda. They maintain a separate kitchen to maintain hygiene.

collage-2017-02-15

Ambience: (4/5) Far from being a typical eatery restaurant, “Delhicacy” palatial eatery is haute Chinese to the hilt, with good ambiance and soft music in the background. They have wooden sitting with colorful comfortable cushions & aluminum chairs too. This place is recently renovated and been given a beautiful charm by this couple.

Cuisine / Menu: (5/5) Only Veg is served here. The food variety & taste is authentic and the best in vicinity. They are going to launch new menu soon as a part of renovation, with no much hikes in prices.

Food : (5/5)  We ordered the chat chotore of every variety like in :

  1. Drinks: Shikanji Mojito, Khada Masala Chai
  2. Chaat Chatore:

Bedmi Aloo with Raita : (4/5) A classic from the streets of Chandni Chowk, Bedmi is a type of poori with dal stuffing inside  & served with classic aloo ki sabzi, imli chutney(with saunth) and kachalu chaat. Here the poori was zero in salt with perfect texture, perfectly puffed and perfectly fried . Aloo subji was tangy, lil spicy and very tasty. Perfect spices mix.

Palak Patta Chaat (5/5) :A perfect fusion of Delhi’s papdi chat and palak. Palak leaves (spinach) had been made into crisp ‘leaf like shape ‘ by frying and then made a chaat. It had awesome lip smacking taste with perfect amount of spices and chutneys.

Patile Wale Matar Kulche (4/5) : Kulche are soo soft & way better than the usual sloppy bread version that is available in markets .Even Matar are properly cooked. No much spices and well garnished.

Bhature Cholle (5/5)  :(2 pc)  Soft, perfectly puffed & fried Bhature with well cooked cholle and kachalu chaat . Bhature had a yellow texture from inside, which was Haldi,Paneer & Daal added while baking. Our hands were not smached with oil/ghee  was best part of it.

Aloo Pyaaz Paratha with Raita (5/5): Parantha’s were served with Boondi Raita, pickle. I just loved the pickle. Parantha’s were too yummy and less thick, increasing its crispyness.

Premium Aloo Tikki (3.5/5) : Served with chutney and onion. It has yellow daal mixed in it.

 3) Deserts:

Desi Ghee Jalebi (Just 50 bucks for 100gm) (5/5): They use only desi ghee for Jalebi and it has a fermented feel in the middle part, thus adding a tinge of sour that acts as a good balance to the sweet. Its served hot along with rabri (if you asked them to).

Portions: They provide good quantity portions, so you don’t have to worry for it. Each item ordered can 2 people easily.

Jackfruit Recipe or Kathal ki subji

Blogging is about giving more than it is about getting.

Hello friends…I was exploring yesterday to learn new recipes that use fruits in innovative way to create delicious and healthy dishes.  The one I’ve got for you today is going to use JACKFRUIT. In hindi we call it as Kathal. The jackfruit is a fruit that is native to South and Southeast Asia and is apparently quite popular in the tropical locations where it grows.  It has a really distinct flavor.

Jackfruit is enormous and prickly on the outside. When unripe (green), it is remarkably similar in texture to chicken, making jackfruit an excellent vegetarian substitute for meat. Jackfruit is said to be the largest tree borne fruit in the world. The best part of the fruit is that even its seeds have a high nutritional value.

Best part to cook Jackfruit or kathal, is to first select it. Jackfruit can also be purchased frozen, dried, or canned. But it’s always best to buy fresh ones form Vegetable market. You can ask the seller to cut open the green color or yet not ripe Kathal, which is white or pale yellow color from inside. As the fruit ripens, it will turn orange and wont be much stingy.

PS: Also many people consider Kathari instead of Kathal. Kathari is small in size wrt to outer diameter of Kathal.

Storage: Jackfruits turn brown and deteriorate quickly after ripening. Hence it is always advisable to wrap it in a plastic bag and keep it in refrigerator. Use it fresh as soon as possible to avoid any kind of spoilage.

Why to eat Jackfruit ?  Jackfruit contains many vitamins and minerals, and offers numerous health benefits. It can be helpful in curing cancer, ulcers and indigestion. It’s a very good source of potassium and good source of vitamin A, C, and certain B vitamins, and minerals like calcium, zinc, and phosphorous.

Ingredients

  • 750 gm of Jackfruit (after sliced into small pieces)
  • 6-7 tsp. olive oil
  • 3 onion, chopped
  • 2 tomato mashed
  • ¼ tbsp. ginger garlic paste
  • ½ tsp. ground cumin (sabut zeera)
  • ½ tsp. Garam Masala
  • ½ tbsp. Dhaniya Powder
  • ½ tsp. chili powder

kathal-subji

Recipe:

  • Get the Jackfruit cut open from vegetable seller into small pieces as shown. Ele you can buy it full and cut it at home, by applying oil to you hand and knife, as it is very stingy.
  • Once you get it cut, remove the seeds, and can store it in polythene in refrigerator. It os much nutritional value and can be boiled to add into Salads or sauces.
  • Wash the remaining jackfruit in running water & remove the core.Keep it aside for some time for water to drain out completely.
  • Place the pan on high flame with 6-7 tbsp of oil. Add the jackfruit , which were kept aside. Stir & fry till its color changes to yellow brownish. Once done remove it from pan leaving behind access oil
  • Chop the onions (big/small depending on your taste). Saute them in this pan (having oil) over medium heat for about 5-6 minutes or until translucent, then add the garlic garlic paste and saute a minute more.
  • Add mashed tomatoes to it and again let it saute for 7-10 mins.
  • Once the thick paste is ready, add the fried jackfruit to it. Cover the pan and let the pan be on low flame for 10 mins so Jackfruit absorbs the taste
  • Check it , if jackfruit is soft now. If not add lil water (1/2 cup) and again place the lid. Continue keeping the pan on low flame, until Jackfruit is cooked and absorbed max of curry.

Now your dish is ready to be served with Roti or poori.

Keep enjoying the taste of life.
