Lockup..Wanna be jailed for food!!

As name suggest, this place gives you new experience of being in a jail and treated with scrumptious food in aluminium plates and bowls. I visited it yesterday with my husband to have dinner & was really impressed with its interiors. They have tried really well to create the quirky rusty ambience with jail bars all over, dim lights and old Aluminium chairs. Walls are decorated with thief’s images and a chain barred thief standing on doorstep to welcome you. They have utilized the space very well, providing 2 floor seating with ample way to walk.

Service was really quick and person in charge ensured everybody is attended on time. Food presentation is tasteful just like its food.We were very hungry so started off with starters along with few mocktails like Oye Bubbly (5/5) – Orange & peach mojito, Melon Fresco (5/5) : Watermelon & mint juice

Food_Coolg

  • Veg Mezze platter (4/5) – crispy falafel, baba ghanoush served iwth soft pita breads and hummus. Decorated nicely using long crispy papdi.
  • Veggie surprise (5/5) – It was a Wrap slight on spicy side, but full of veggies and mayo cheese. must try. Outer crust was
  • Farm house Pizza (5/5) :
  • Jalapeno Poppers (4/5):

With a slight break and our talks, we ordered our main course, Dal Makhani, chicken makhani with breads. Must say the Dal makhani was authentic to its taste with perfect flavors indeed. No artificial added cream. Its gravy was perfect blended with spices.

We called off our lovely evening with a wonderful surprise dessert. Guess the Ball (5/5): no words to describe its presentation and taste. The pic says it all.

Had a great day and will highly recommend it to all. Please find it on Zomato at :

Philtre..??a love potion ? Wanna try ?

Yes friends, am back with my next review of newly opened restaurant in gurgaon’s happening place, Sector 29. As we all know this place is full of newbie’s with different concept so yes lets welcome Philtre , which means ” a drink supposed to arouse love and desire for a particular person in the drinker”, in other words a love potion.

This place is full of aroma be its ambience, concept, food presentation. They have a ancient era funda behind every drinks and food. Theme of this restaurant is related to an old era with fascinating paintings on the wall, decorum and bar arrangements. They don’t believe in using glassware to match their old era concept and hence go for  Brass, ceramic and other metals which were famous for crockery.

Food & drinks menu is wide and has lot of different exotic names to it. Every food item is served along with its presentation & preparation story, which not only excites us to try it but also makes us feel good to eat what we know.

Drinks were customized according to our choices, be it a mocktail or a cocktail and presented beautifully in different ways like in mocktails we had:

  1. Piney Basil slush : Its a must try
  2. Asian Sapphire
  3. Cold coffee

Similarly in cocktails we tried :

  1. Botany of Desire : Must try
  2. Midas Touch

DrnksComing to veg starters, we had

  • Beetroot crisps (4/5): Nowadays many restaurants are playing with beetroot and creating good dishes, this is yet another one of those. Thinly sliced battered beetroot golden fried served with bhel and mint chuttney.
  • Cholle chawal bites – This was something new to me, with a crispy fried layer full of spicy chole rice mixture. Spices were little on high end but yes loved the fusion.
  • Rajma Galouti – This was a different style to present galouti dish with fast food fusion. Placing rajma galouti kebab over in-house nachos was very innovative. Taste was literally lip smacking and delicious.

In non veg starters, the all time fav of my hubby was

  • Lamb chops(5/5) – One of the best and softest lamb chops that he ever had. Melted in mouth, and full of aroma and flavors. These Lamb Chops were a showstopper dish.
  • Maggi Fish Finger (4/5): My favorite dish, fresh fish battered with Maggi and fried golden, served with tartar dip. Amazing.
  • Butter Chicken Fondue (4/5): Another nice dish. Fried minced chicken fingers served with butter chicken gravy.
  • Lucknowi seekh (4/5): Yummy double seekh kebab filled with cheese at the center. Amazing.

In mains we ate, Maggi Prawns (5/5): Perfectly cooked prawns inside you very own Maggi. Must try for prawn lovers. Lamb Croquettes (4/5): Having nicely spiced and minced lamb inside crispy crust outside. Served with rogan josh gravy. Falafel Curry (5/5)-(both veg & non veg), this was a new fusion concept wherein the gravy was so creamy and  falafel carried its own crunchyness. Not an easy task so well done chef and a must try. Machir Ghunto(5/5) – Its a pulao with fish texture. Authentic to its taste and aroma. Was delicious.

Last but not the least , dessert was the USP here. We had In Desserts we had Litchi Rabri panna cotta (4/5): Served with Saffron foam and crispy almond tuile. Chocolate Desire (5/5): It was a cylindrical shaped chocolate flavored dessert sprinkled choco chips and served with fruit sauce,It had right amount of chocolate in it, was not much sweet and not much dark. Must try for chocolate lovers. Kulfi Falooda (5/5): A full platter of falooda served with various food items like fresh fruits, Malai peda and Paan flavor , which made it the showstopper in desserts. It was scrumptious and very refreshing.

Service was really quick and servers knew what they are serving which makes it more presentable. Before leaving the chef visited us to know our experience, presented us with something i can nevr forget, Gur Candies, have a look 🙂

Coming to the tasting session, here are the dishes and the cocktails I tried
MOCKTAILS

Jamunrita -A Flash Frozen black jamun extract spiked with red chilli ,foggy clove smoke is chilled refreshing and tangy to its name. Its served in a filter glass within a huge glass bowl filled with liquid nitro, emitting smoke/flumes adds to it presentation while making it look more tempting. Its truly an amazing drink and a must try from the menu.

Sitara Phool: Another refreshing drink served with the appetizers was made up of burnt star Anise flavoured with rose, tamarind water, topped with soda crushed ice.

In snacks we tried, Chinjabi Veg platter which had delicious crispy chilli potato, asian paneer skewer, spring rolls, paneer tikka & kumbh ke soole. It was served with pita breads and flavored sauces. For veggies its a must try. Next we tried Veg Mezze which was snap-pea falafel , spinach & cheese samousek. It was okayish in flavor but can be improved.

Next was Mathur Chicken Chaat which is part of their Salads menu and was delicious. It had grilled chicken with tangy seasoning of chilies, coriander, onion & tomatoes. The best snack which is unforgettable is “Daryaganj Giant Samosa”, a large samosa with crispy layer relished inside with dry fruits and tamarind.

In Main course, we tried both veg/non-veg delicacies like changezi murgh, paneer do pyaza & lahori meat served with assorted indian breads.Food was scrumptious and authentic to its flavor. Lot tempting to refrain 😛

In Desserts we tried their, Atomic Kalajamun with vanilla ice-cream & Bromley Apple Pie.

To end this wonderful food journey we had their Bombay Cutting Chai, authentic to its name & presentation. Signature cona coffee served with cute little cookies. Strong and awakening coffee made with dense cream and milk left its taste on the palette for quite long.

Molecule Air bar | Next gen Alehouse

Molecule Air Bar is the next addition to Sector 29 market, which is a hub of theme based restro-pubs. I heard a lot about this place from my friends in the past, so planned to visit it with my friends last weekend. It’s on other side of Sector 29 and located at 2nd floor. It’s a capacious place spread across 2 floors including a terrace. Molecule is taking molecular gastronomy to a whole new level along with a German brewery, with its smoky flames and innovative spectacles.

The ambience here takes you back in time machine to World war 2. The walls are covered with metal guns and other stuff depicted to be used in the war. A big face mask on one side of the wall resembling some cruel superpower, and on other side, glass walls depicting molecular diagrams. Food here is served in a symbolic way like golgapps water served in test tubes, chutneys served in injections. Vintage lights resemble the molecular hexagonal design. Seating varied from high end stools to low based sofa’s to comfortable laid back couches.

Capture

When we visited this place, it was jam packed. Evening time this place is full of people, enjoying their beers, foot-tapping on the live music running across the place. Even there is no dance floor, still ample space to enjoy!!

Coming to food, they provide a variety of Indian dishes in fusion to progressive ways. This place has something which cannot go unnoticed. The dishes served are authentic in taste but infused with innovation & creativity of the chef. Must to mention here about their chef, as he himself comes to people for talking to them about their dishes, ask them about feedback!! Food presentation is done keeping in mind the restro theme. Just like they serve Molecular Puckha Shots (5/5), which is their version of Gol gappa’s served with assorted water flavors in test tubes & chutneys in injections. The potato stuffing is served in a mini pressure cooker. Then next we were served chef’s special Dragon Smoked Popcorn (4/5), which were infused with liquid nitrogen, which made it crispy. When we tried to pick and eat, even our fingers felt cold.

This followed by the Air Bread (4/4) which are little pillow resembled crispy breads stuffed with combination of 4 cheese sauces and green chili caviar. They served it with 2 topping variations (Paneer and chicken) . Air is injected into the bread with syringes. Next, we had Ghee Roast Soya Keema & Lachcha Paratha combo (5/5) which had four mini parathas hanging from pegs on a little frame with a small pan full of soya keema served with raddish minced salad and chutneys. It was the WINNER dish for me tonite. Edible coal (3/5) was Smokey, lava ash flavored dish. I didn’t like it much. Chakna Tiffin (4/5) was again their innovative dish of serving corn-kurkure chaat in small packets hanging from little frame with clips. It tasted amazing and a must try. Next, we had Pao bhaji (5/5), Paneer Tikka (3/5), it had 4 flavored tikkas but paneer was not much cooked. We talked to chef about it and gave our feedback too. Last but not the least, we tried their Pizza (4/5), full of cheese and varied toppings. Tasted well.

In mocktails, we had 3 to tango, weirdo & apple cider. All were perfect and authentic to taste. Must try is “3 to tango”.

Last but not the least, we had chef special “Imitations of Ras malai”. Chef himself came to our table with materials to prepare this dessert in front of us. We were delighted to see it happen and also made a small video. Many things he explained us before starting, but yes many are a chef’s secret. I cannot rate this dessert, as it deserves accolade 🙂

Wanna b pranked..visit Prankster !!

Want to relive your college days…yesss !! So visit this college based theme restaurant is Sector 29 , Gurgaon. Its till date my fav & best theme based restaurant , with amazing decor and quite spacious. Sector 29 is the fast growing market of Gurgaon with so many restaurants. Prankster is a colossal single floor restaurant with school based theme.

As I step into the lobby, a large upside down red horse welcomes me glasses on all side. The stairs had an amazing led decoration of upside down images and a notice board just like in school days.An old camera with roll developed at the corner. Inside the restaurant they have varied sections like the Classroom, Library, Chemistry Lab, Canteen, Parking Lot,  Amphitheater, etc. Its also called the Food & Brewery campus of Gurgaon 🙂 . The interiors at Prankster are gracefully done with chemistry lab section having images emblazoned on the walls, beakers set with blooming plants, library setup done with chandelier created out of open books, table lamps set on pile of books and a high definition projector to view media, bunker beds, the amphitheater with the multi level seating & the parking lot with a line up of  Lambretta scooters converted into comfortable seats with backrest with tables settled mid & a jeepsy. The seating is appt to section and very comfortable. Library has chairs on both side of a long table with beautiful lamp shades while the chemistry lab does the same with high stools .Unlikely classroom section has seats joined to tables, taking us back to school memories.

They have a big bar section with

We has our seating inside the classroom which has a blackboard, high definition projector, a multi coloured painting of Einstein and lamp shades made by using big paint brushes. More than anything, Prankster surprises you with its unparalleled innovation serving the “nostalgic progressive cuisine”, connecting the foodies with their nostalgic years memories in modern way.

To start with in Veg, we had Nitro cooked Dahi Bhalla, Papdi (4/5) which is an ice-cream that has the exact flavor of dahi bhalla, believe it or not, its a savory dish. Basically its a bhalla mixed with curd ,chilled icecream balls, flavored with dehydrated tamarind chutney and a -20 degree nitro papri. Authentic being crunchy !!  Pao Bhaji Zinker Burger(5/5) is another innovative dish which was full of pranks & is similar to mumbai vada pao. Its served inside the Rubik’s cube where some of them are empty. It has same authentic & spicy vadapao flavor with chili chutney. Reminds me of my college canteen tikki bun. Next was Bun Cholle(5/5),  which was closed bun with chickpeas inside. It was very soft and full of flavors. In Non veg , we had Tempura Fried Prawns with Podi (5/5)– crispy fried prawns served on a stainless steel ruler diaognally with flowers around. Tender Tandoori Lamb Chops (5/5) which were scrumptious. Very tender, and at end clear bone was visible served with onion lachchas.

Must mention is the pizza (5/5) which had flakky base just like our canteen aloo patties. It was well cooked & full of crunchiness. Toppings had all fresh veggies. Must try dish.

In Main course we had, Compressed Paneer Barrels in Thai Curry (4/5)  which was thai curry having panner rolls. Very soft and authentic.Daal Makhani (4/5) was again full of flavors and creamy texture.Served with butter lachcha paranthas. You feel like binging on the food here !

In dessert we had Jalebi with Saffron Ice Cream (5/5) – Have no words to express this dish. Love it to the core. Jalebi was plated in 3 forms as in  big jalebi circles, papad and pearls (boondi ) all served with the saffron ice cream. Again a must try here ! Another sweet dish was Rose kheer. It was live presented by Chef Harangad, where he used liquid nitrogen to garnish rose flowers and served over in house kheer.

The food was totally par excellence with its creative twist. Prices are pocket friendly and must visit place house/office parties 🙂
